WORKSHOPS

During the project we had a number of workshops to help the students gain a deeper understanding of the native stingless bees.

Stuart Palmer the author of our Mathematics textbook ran a workshop on 'Maths and Bees.' He took us through his research he had been doing with the CSIRO as part of the Maths Inside Program. We had an amazing experience to learn about the dimensions and Mathematics behind the small hexagonal shapes that make up the honey comb of the hive.

Elke Haege from Native Stingless Bees ran two workshops with the students to deepen our understanding of the native stingless bees. In the first workshop we learnt about the native solitary bee. This was fascinating as we found out that this bee lives a unique life having a partner and offspring. They are not part of a hive. In this workshop we created habitats for the native solitary bee and placed them around our front garden.

In the second workshop Elke helped us learn about the native stingless bee that would be delivered to us with our bee hive. We also confirmed the location of the hive.
